House by the water – Verbania, Suna, Italy

Located in the lakeside village of Suna, our newest project is nestled among the foothills of the Monte Rosso in an abundance of greenery. The peaceful setting provides excellent views over Lake Maggiore and its main islands and there is a brook running through the terraced section, intensifying the rural setting.

While the former watermill boasts great views and sits in walking distance to the lake, the long abandoned house itself requires a serious upgrade because of structural deficiencies and misplaced openings on the western facade and the tower-like south side.

The plan is to transform the long but narrow house into two holiday apartments, while providing each apartment with an equal share of views and access to pool and outdoor garden.

An natural stone wall devides the garden into an upper and a lower part.

Demolition has started at the upper garden area to create a vehicle access for car parks.

Begin of the interior demolition at the second floor, exposing structural damage on ceilings and exterior walls due to moisture entering from the outside.

Construction has started on reconstructing stone walls as well as the cantilevering exterior staircase of local granit slabs.
